The 2016 Women's Cricket Super League, or 2016 Kia Super League for sponsorship reasons, was a Women's Twenty20 cricket league in England and Wales. It was the first season that the domestic T20 competition, run by the ECB. The league consisted of the 6 teams with the hosts and partners including seven first-class counties, five minor counties and three universities.[1][2][3][4] The ECB hoped that the WCSL will develop as a semi-professional competition, with the intention of bridging the gap between the amateur Women's County Championship and international cricket, for which England players are centrally contracted as professionals.[5]
Competition format
Six teams competed for the T20 title which took place between 30 July and 21 August 2016. The six teams played each other once in a round robin format; followed by a finals day at the County Cricket Ground, Chelmsford.[6][7]
