21 Laps Entertainment is an American film and television production company run by director-producer Shawn Levy.[2] 21 Laps produces content in multiple genres and along with Levy, the company’s leadership includes Dan Levine (President) and Dan Cohen (Senior Vice President).
Past theatrical releases for the company include the blockbuster Night at the Museum franchise,[3] the Sundance drama The Spectacular Now,[4] comedies Date Night and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, the futuristic drama Real Steel, and the philosophical sci-fi drama Arrival.[5]
21 Laps’ upcoming films include Fox’s Why Him? starring James Franco, which will be released theatrically on Dec. 23, 2016, and Warner Bros.’s Fist Fight starring Ice Cube, which will be released theatrically on Feb. 17, 2017.[5]
The company’s most recent television project, Stranger Things, premiered on Netflix in July 2016 and achieved tremendous critical acclaim, earning a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes with 55 out of 58 reviews being positive.[6] The show's first season was also one of Netflix's most watched series, averaging 14.07 million adults 18-49 in its first 35 days.[7] Along with producing the series, Levy directed two of the premiere season’s episodes;[8] a second season has recently been announced.[9]
As of 2016, there are about 40 movies in development at the company including Fox Searchlight’s Table 19 starring Anna Kendrick.[5] The company also has several films in production including: Kodachrome starring Ed Harris, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jason Sudeikis; Kin starring James Franco, Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz and Dennis Quaid; and Undergraduate, from La La Land and Whiplash filmmaker Damien Chazelle. Their upcoming television undertakings include the sixth season of ABC’s Last Man Standing starring Tim Allen and Imaginary Mary, an ABC comedy starring Jenna Elfman.
