414 Tank Battalion (German: Panzerbataillon 414, Dutch: 414 Pantserbataljon) is a mixed German and Dutch tank battalion, consisting out of 100 Dutch and around 300 German soldiers.
The battalion is getting formed from 2016 until 2019 and is expected to be fully operational from 2019.[1]
Previously the German battalion, part of the 41st Panzergrenadier Brigade was active from 1991-2006 at Spechtberg. It was established on the basis of the 22nd and 23rd Panzer Regiments, 9th Panzer Division, of the Land Forces of the National People's Army, the former East German Army.[2]
On 17 March 2016, the battalion was attached to the Dutch 43rd Mechanized Brigade which is in turn a part of the German 1st Panzer Division.[3]
The barracks of 414 Panzerbattalion are in Bergen-Lohheide, Lower Saxony.
Structure
414 Tank Battalion consists of the following elements:[4]
- Staff (German, few Dutch)
- 1 Company (staff and supply, mostly German, few Dutch)
- 2 Tank Company (German)
- 3 Tank Company (German)
- 4 Tank Company (Dutch)
Out of the 100 Dutch soldiers there are 72 tank crew members and 28 staff and maintenance and support crews.
