Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Imperia commonly referred to as simply Imperia (formerly A.S.D. Pro Imperia), is an Italian association football club located in Imperia, Liguria and since 13 July 2012, after the disappearance from football of the former Imperia Calcio, the club is the main team of the city.[1]
In the 2011–12 season the club has played in Serie D after promotion from Eccellenza Liguria.
In the 2011–12 and in the 2012–13 seasons in Serie D, when the club was relegated to Eccellenza Liguria, it has been the team more representative of the province of Imperia.[2]
History
Football in Imperia
From U.S. Imperia to A.S.D. Imperia Calcio
The origins of football in Imperia go back to 1923 when was founded Unione Sportiva Imperia and refounded in 1987 as A.S. Imperia '87 and in 2008 by the last President Antonio Gagliano with A.S.D. Imperia Calcio, changing the name of the club Progetto Olimpia Imperia created in 2007. Since 2012 the club is disbanded.
From A.S.D. RivieraPontedassio 2006 to A.S.D. Imperia
A.S.D. RivieraPontedassio 2006
The club was founded in 2006 as A.S.D. RivieraPontedassio 2006 after the merger with Riviera Calcio Imperia (founded in 1970) and Valle Impero Pontedassio, a club born in 1983.[3]
From P.R.O. Imperia to Pro Imperia
From Prima Categoria to Serie D
In 2008 the club merged with Onegliese and SanBart 80 and changed its name in A.S.D. P.R.O. Imperia. P.R.O stands for Pontedassio, Riviera and Onegliese.[4] In 2010 the club changed its name to A.S.D. Pro Imperia and was promoted to Serie D in the 2010–11 season, obtained by winning the promotion play-off of Eccellenza Liguria,[5] after an ascent started in Prima Categoria in the 2008–09 season.
2011–12 season
In its first season in Serie D the former Pro Imperia was ranked 10th with 13 victories, 11 draws and 12 defeats with 46 goals for and 49 against, for a total of 50 points.[6]
- First leg
In the half of the season in Serie D the team was ranked 12th with 6 victories, 7 draws and 5 defeats with 23 goals for and 26 against, for a total of 25 points.[7]
The six victories have been obtained:
- the historic first in Serie D at away in Alba against Albese for 2–1;[8]
- five at home: against Asti for 1–0,[9] Cantù San Paolo for 2–1,[10] Lascaris for 2–1,[11] Verbano for 1–0[12] and Bogliasco for 1–0.[13]
- Second leg
In the second round of the season the club won 7 matches with 4 draws and 7 defeats with 23 goals for and 23 against, for a total of 25 points.
The seven victories have been obtained:
- five at away in Carate Brianza against Folgore Caratese for 2–1,[14] in Asti against Asti for 2–1,[15] in Trezzano sul Naviglio against Naviglio Trezzano for 2–0,[16] in Cantù against Cantù San Paolo for 4–1[17] and in Pianezza against Lascaris for 3–2;[18]
- two at home: against Derthona for 1–0[19] and Villalvernia V. B. for 2–0.[20] (gaining salvation mathematical with 4 mathes in advance).
A.S.D. Imperia
On 13 July 2012 the club was renamed A.S.D. Imperia following the disappearance from football of the former Imperia Calcio.[21]
2012–13 season
In a disastrous and incredible season in its second championship in Serie D, the team was ranked 18th, in the last place and was so relegated to Eccellenza, with 6 victories, 2 draws and 26 defeats with 33 goals for and 89 against, for a total of 20 points
- First leg
In a half of the season the team was ranked 18th with only 2 victories, 1 draw and as many as 14 defeats (of which ten consecutive) with 10 goals for and 38 against, for a total of only 7 points.
The two victories have been obtained at away in Asti against Asti for 1–0[22] and in Trezzano sul Naviglio against Trezzano for 2–1.[23]
- Second leg
In the second round of the season the club won 4 matches with 1 draw and 12 defeats with 23 goals for and 51 against, for a total of 13 points.
The four victories have been obtained:
- two match at home against Derthona for 2–1 [24] and Trezzano for 4–1[25]
- two at away in Tortona against Tortona Villalvernia for 3–2[26] and in Verbania against Verbania Calcio for 2–1.[27]
2013–14 season
The team was ranked 9th in Eccellenza Liguria.
Colors and badge
Since 13 July 2012 the team has changed its colors from white (the historic color of Riviera Calcio), black and blue to black and blue (the traditional colors of former Imperia Calcio).

The club has established relationships of friendship with Siena club, after having hosted the team of Serie A during the winter retreat of the season 2011–12.[28]
