Anthony James Mayers, known as A. J. Mayers (born June 19, 1987), is the marketing coordinator for Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles,[2] and the author of four novels.

Biography

A native of Laredo, Texas, Mayers at the age of six began writing his personal thoughts in a spiral notebook, unknowingly providing the training for his later success as a novelist and storyteller.[3] He graduated in 2005 from United South High School within the United Independent School District in Laredo[4] and in 2009 from the University of Texas at Austin.[3] He received a scholarship through the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium in Austin.[5]

In August 2014, he released Black Sheep's Meadow, a crime drama.[6] His earlier books constitute a trilogy: Among Us (2011), Moonshadow (2012), and The Cosmos of Destiny (2013).[6] Moonshadow, the sequel to Among Us, is a story of aliens who live on Earth and a government agency willing to murder to keep their presence secret.[7] His next book will be entitled Final Boarding.[6] Mayers describes his craft of wordsmith as mentally draining and exhausting.[4]

Among the films that Mayers has marketed for Paramount are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which grossed nearly $66 million in its first weekend in August 2014;[4] Guardians of the Galaxy, Let's Be Cops, If I Stay, and The November Man.[8] Mayers was the production assistant for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.[2]

Mayers is a lecturer on the dangers of bullying, an issue in his own past.[4] In January 2014, he was named vice chair of the Viacom Employee Resource LGBT Group called "Emerge".[2]

In December 2013, Mayers was named by Mayor Raul G. Salinas as the second person to receive the honor of "Laredo's Outstanding Son".[2] In 2014, he was inducted into the "League of Legends" of the United Independent School District.[9]
