Aaron Buchanan (Born Aaron James Buchanan; 13 September 1990) is a British singer, songwriter and record producer best known as the former singer of British rock band Heaven's Basement. In October 2015 Buchanan departed Heaven's Basement citing differences in direction and launched "Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics" the following year.

Heaven's Basement | Filthy Empire

Buchanan is known for a flamboyant and occasionally acrobatic stage persona^[1] and extensive vocal range having toured across The United Kingdom,^[2] Northern America,^[3] Canada,^[4] Europe,^[5] Australia^[6] and New Zealand ^[7] supporting acts such as Halestorm,^[8] Seether,^[9] Buck Cherry,^[10] Tremonti,^[11] Black Veil Brides,^[12] Ugly Kid Joe,^[13] Duff McKagans Loaded (band),^[14] Alice Cooper,^[15] Aerosmith ^[16] and The Pretty Reckless ^[17] with festival performances including appearances at Download Festival notably the Zippo Encore Stage in 2013 (UK),^[18] Rocklahoma,^[19] Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion,^[20] Aftershock Festival, and Kansas City Rockfest^[21] amongst others.

Buchanan found recognition with the release of the Heaven's Basement's Filthy Empire album, produced by John Feldmann and engineered by Brandon Paddock in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles through 2012 and released on 4 February 2013 by Red Bull Records with single, "Fire Fire" reaching No.11 on the US main chart and "Nothing Left To Lose" reaching No.18^[22] respectively. The band had previously written and demoed with Bob Marlette earlier in 2012 but later switched producers. In November 2013, Buchanan also performed with Heaven's Basement on the BBC Radio One Live Lounge, a cover of Lady Gaga's "Do What U Want" to mixed reception.^[23]

Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics

On 10 May 2016, Buchanan launched the band Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics via Facebook featuring Kev Hickman^[24] of RavenEye, Tom McCarthy, Chris Guyatt and sibling Laurie Buchanan.^[25] The band launched their first single "All The Things You've Said And Done" ^[26] on 12 October 2016 from forthcoming album The Man With Stars On His Knees.

The Man With Stars On His Knees

The Man With Stars On His Knees was written by Buchanan between 2011 (during and after the first Filthy Empire writing sessions) and 2016, finishing the writing elements whilst in Brisbane, Australia in February 2016. Many of the early demo's were intended for the second Heaven's Basement record (mentioned in a recent interview at Hard Rock Hell 10^[27]). The Man With Stars On His Knees is due for release in Spring 2017. The album was produced at Plus 11 Studio^[28] by James Curtis Thomas^[29] and Buchanan and features guitarist Ryan Woods (who also played bass and engineered the record), Laurie Buchanan (guitars), Aaron Buchanan, and James Curtis Thomas on drums. The album was heavily inspired by 90's rock, including but not limited to; Chris Cornell, Alice In Chains, The Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Skunk Anansie, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Queen amongst others. The album was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Christian Wright.^[30]

On 17 October, "Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics" commenced their first national tour as main support to InMe^[31] promoting upcoming album The Man With Stars On His Knees.

The single was preceded earlier in the year (on 5 September 2016) by a critically acclaimed tribute to Freddie Mercury^[32][33][34] in celebration of what would have been Mercury's 70th birthday. The video was a cover of "Love Of My Life" written by Mercury and released on the A Night at the Opera album by Queen in 1975.

Early life

Buchanan was born in Basildon in the United Kingdom and lived in Thurrock, Essex. Through his school years he spent much of his time at now defunct Stanford Sound Studios in East Tilbury as a runner; it was here that he met producer James Curtis Thomas who later produced The Man With Stars On His Knees through late 2015 and early 2016.

Through 2007 to 2009, Buchanan fronted a Southend-based alternative band named Oceans Upon Us. The band generally kept to local performances supporting the likes of Deaf Havana,^[35] Fei Comodo^[36] and Don Broco.^[37] Through his teens, Buchanan performed nationally before moving to Suffolk to be closer to then current band Immercia (which is where Tom McCarthy and Buchanan first met) ultimately joining Heaven's Basement in February 2011.
