Abdulla Fareed Al Gurg
Abdulla Al Gurg is the Group General Manager of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group LLC, consisting 24 companies; as well as the Easa Saleh Al Gurg LLC, the private holding company. Al Gurg is the third generation of the family, and the grandson of founder Easa Saleh Al Gurg. The Group which has been in business for over five decades has product and business interests predominantly within retail, building and construction, industrial and joint ventures.[1][2]
Early life and education
Al Gurg is the oldest son of Mrs Raja Al Gurg, the managing director of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group LLC. He earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and management from the American University of Sharjah, after graduating from the Dubai National School. Al Gurg also holds a master's certificate in management concepts from Regis University, Denver, Colorado. In addition, Al Gurg has obtained certificates in executive education in "Leadership Development" from the Columbia Business School, and "Negotiation & Decision-Making, Changing the Game" from the Harvard Business School.[3][1][4]
Career
Al Gurg became Group General Manager of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group in October, 2009.[5] Before taking up his present position, Al Gurg served as executive project director of The Tiger Woods Dubai for over three years.[6][7] He also managed the CEO Monitoring Unit from January–December 2006, in Tatweer, an entity within Dubai Holding. His role required overseeing the group’s operations in excellence, revenue, customer and marketing, as well as real estate development for companies including the Dubai HealthCare City, Bawadi, Dubailand and Dubai Industrial City. He was also government purchases coordinator at the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders.[8] His first job was in the sales department of a call centre at Tejari.com, an e-commerce hub in Dubai.[9]
Business career
Under his tenure the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group has expanded in the GCC region; in the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Al Gurg has also led the activation of a Treasury Management System, helping establish the first in-house Bank in the GCC region.[10][11] He is also an active Board member within the Group’s joint ventures, namely Al Gurg Fosroc LLC, Siemens LLC, Arabian Explosives, Al Gurg Smollan and Al Gurg Unilever.[12][13] Abdulla is also on the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Fujairah.[14]
Al Gurg has enabled the Group focus on a learning environment through a dedicated Learning & Development Centre.[15] He has also been responsible for the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group’s sponsorship of the Emirates Transport League of Innovators.[16] He often speaks about entrepreneurship and family businesses at leadership forums. Abdulla has been a panellist at the American University of Sharjah Entrepreneurship Forum[17] as well as the key speaker at the CFO Alliance Conference held in 2014.[18] He was honoured by the Tatweej Academy for ”Wise Leadership“ in December 2014.[19]
Personal life
Spending time with his family, watching movies and fitness is part of his daily schedule. He love sports and travel. Al Gurg is a member of the Board of Directors of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Charity Foundation. In recognition of the Foundation‘s charitable efforts, he was the Lloyds TSB Torchbearer for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.[20][3]
