Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed

Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, is the Speaker of the Maldives Parliament, named People's Majlis.[1] He was elected Speaker on 28 May 2014.[2]

Work and political career

Mohamed began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and has been in the Public Service ever since. He is recognised as a formidable negotiator, campaigner and team builder. Mohamed contributed significantly to the democratic transition that has taken place in the Maldives in the last two decades, particularly as a member of the Special Majlis.[2]

Mohamed worked at the President's Office as Deputy Minister from 2001.[2]

Mohamed was first elected to the Parliament in 2000 to represent his own island constituency of Fuahmulah in the Gnaviyani Atoll and was re-elected in 2005, 2009 and again in 2014.[2]

Mohamed served from July 2004 to August 2008 in the Special Majlis that was mandated with the drafting of the 2008 Constitution for the Maldives.

Mohamed is a member of the Progressive Party of the Maldives, PPM, currently the main governing party in the Maldives.[2]
