Aisha N. Braveboy (born July 29, 1974) is an American politician who represents district 25 in the Maryland House of Delegates.

Background

Born in Washington, D.C., Delegate Braveboy attended Melwood Elementary school, Kettering Middle school and graduated from Largo High School in 1992. She went on to the University of Maryland, College Park, and earned her B.A. in government & politics in 1997. Three years later she graduated from the Howard University School of Law with a J.D. and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2000. She is currently a member of the Maryland State Bar Association.[1] Braveboy was elected after Delegate Anthony Brown vacated his seat to run for Lt. governor.

In the legislature

In 2006, Braveboy was elected to represent the 25th Legislative District in the Maryland General Assembly. She served on the House Economic Matters Committee, and chaired the Consumer Protection subcommittee. She was the Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and a member of the Maryland's Women's Caucus. [2]

Braveboy supported consumer protection by sponsoring legislation addressing:

Mortgage foreclosures, and predatory lending practices; Unfair gas zone pricing schemes; Building a green economy in the state of Maryland; Homeowner and condominium law Protecting living wages and ensuring the quality of life for our communities;

Braveboy is committed to education: Lead house sponsor of a bill raising the compulsory attendance age to 18 thereby increasing the chance that young people will graduate with a high school diploma and continue to pursue higher education.

She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She serves as the National Chair of Legislative Action.
