Al-Shorta SC in continental club competitions
Al-Shorta is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad, Iraq. The club's first match in a continental club competition was a 3–2 victory over Taj Club on 21 March 1971, and it has since participated in Asian and Arab club competitions on several occasions. Al-Shorta has won one major continental club competition - the 1982 Arab Champions League - and is one of just two Iraqi sides to win a major continental club competition alongside Al-Rasheed. They also became the first side from Iraq to reach the final of Asia's main club competition in 1971 but they withdrew from the game against Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv for political reasons.[1]
Al-Shorta's biggest winning margin in Asian competitions is by five goals; they thrashed Punjab Police 6–1 in the 1971 Asian Club Championship and defeated Al-Wahda of Yemen 5–0 in the 1999–2000 Asian Champions League.[2]
