Alara Wholefoods

Alara Wholefoods is a London based Muesli manufacturer specialising in organic, fair trade, gluten free, paleo and vegan breakfast products. Alara is additionally a private label cereal manufacturer and runs a superfood and bulk ingredients wholesale website.

Alara was established in 1975 by Alex Smith - the current CEO - from £2 found on the street. Alex had chosen to live without money as a means of opting out of what he found to be an oppressive and objectionable way of life, dominated by property developers and non-producing capitalists. This £2 was used to enter Covent Garden market where he began to trade salvaged vegetables and fruit followed by nuts, grains, dried fruits and cereals as business grew. After being evicted from a number of sites Alex finally bought a small store in Camden and from there Alara began to develop to what it is today.

Alara now produces over 50% of the UK organic cereals and 100% of the Fair Trade cereals in the UK. In addition, Alara produces the only kiln-dried oats - using such a process helps to protect the nutrients and vitamin content of the oats.

Alara Brands

Over the past few years Alara has expanded to include the Alara range, Pertwood Farm range, Of The Earth Superfoods range and a new 2016 range; Lucy Rocks Paleo.

Private Label

Alara has progressed from producing solely own brand to producing private label cereals for an exceptional number of clients. With an in-house New Product Development team and an exceptional ingredient selection (which caters for organic, paleo, vegan, fair trade, gluten free and conventional needs) and a vast range of packaging options.

Bulk Ingredient Sales

In 2016 Alara set up an online bulk ingredient store named Superfood Wholesale. Here it is possible to source high quality nuts, seeds, fruits, cereals, superfoods, protein powders, natural sweeteners and more in bulk quantities at low prices.

Sustainability

Alara is fully committed to promoting sustainability, as evidenced by their company mission statement: TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY. This new mission comes following their achievement of attaining the title of WORLD'S MOST SUSTAINABLE FOOD MANUFACTURER.

Zero waste

Announced as the first Zero-waste food manufacturer in the world, several years ago. Alara ensures that no food produced in the factory goes to waste through; producing against orders, this means no over-producing, giving to charity when possible and through using anaerobic digesters.
