Jose Alejandro Gomez Monteverde (born July 13, 1977) is a Mexican film director. His first film, Bella took top prize at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival by winning the “People's Choice Award”.[1]

The director of the Department of Citizenship gave Monteverde the "American by Choice" award for Bella's positive contribution to Latino art and culture in the U.S.

Bella

Monteverde wrote and directed Bella,[2][3][4] a film that took top prize at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival by winning the “People's Choice Award”.[2]

Little Boy

Monteverde directed and co-wrote Little Boy, a film set during World War II, released in 2015.[5]

Personal life

Monteverde married American actress Ali Landry on April 8, 2006 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.[6][7] They have three children: daughter Estela Ines (born July 11, 2007),[8] and sons Marcelo Alejandro (born October 8, 2011)[9][10] and Valentin Francesco (born July 11, 2013).[11] Valentin's middle name was inspired by Pope Francis, as Landry and Monteverde met him while she was pregnant and he blessed the baby.[11]
