All Cannings Church of England Primary School is a mixed primary school located in All Cannings, Devizes, England which serves children aged four to eleven from All Cannings and Devizes. The school was established in 1833 and has had over 2,500 pupils attend in its history.
History
All Cannings had a Sunday school by 1808 and a day-school by 1818.[1] 100 pupils were enrolled in the day-school but attendance was much lower as many of the children worked in the fields during the week.[1] By 1833 the village had two day-schools: the parish school with 105 pupils and a private school with 12 pupils, which closed in 1858.[1] The parish school was built on land given by the Lord of the Manor, Alexander Baring.[1] The school received a further grant of land in 1862.
In 1999 a new school building, adjacent to the village cemetery, was opened by The Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sir Maurice Robert Johnston.
Today
Today the school has more than 110 pupils in four classes. The school has received numerous awards including the Green Flag Award.[2] There is also a pre-school.
In June 2009 the school was awarded 'Grade 1 - Outstanding' in all areas of the school, except raising standards through higher goals, for which it received 'Grade 2 - Good'.[3]
