Amelia Ong is an Indonesian jazz singer.
Early life
R. Rr. Amelia Tri Wardani was born on Purwokerto and was grew up in musician family. In age of 4, she began studying vocal training, saxophone and classical piano which had teach by her own brother. Ong had often to performed in several show, such as wedding show and explore her perform in Semarang.
Ong has moved to Jakarta with her vocal teacher Bertha for gaining a lot of knowledge vocals. According of her, the vocal teacher more direct to her for playing jazz music. In addition, Ong also introduced by her vocal teacher to top musician, such as Idang Rasjidi and Yance Manusama. Because of it, Ong has opportunity to perform with musician in several jazz festival, such as Jazz Goes to Campus and Java Jazz Festival.
In 2006, Ong has decided moving to Perth in Australia for continuing her college at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. In addition of her busy college, Ong joining to orchestra group West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, with her stage name Amelia Ong.
Career
During 8 years live in Australia, Ong began her debut career for performed with several Australian jazz musician, such as James Morrison and Joe Chindamo to festival jazz Wangaratta Festival of Jazz. To date, Ong decided to return her home country for observing development of jazz. After that, Ong had back to performed in a jazz festival 2014 Bogor Jazz Reunion.[1]
Demajors has signed a deal recording to her and began on working the debut album, with several musician, such as Sri Hanuraga, Kevin Yosua and Dennis Juno. In 2015, Ong has released in official for her self-titled studio album. Subsequently, Ong has earned two nomination categories in the 2016 Anugerah Musik Indonesia. Still same of year, Ong selected for performing in the Tangsel Jazz Festival.[2]
