Americana is a passed over American drama television pilot which was created by Michael Seitzman and produced by Mark Gordon, Phillip Noyce, Nicholas Pepper and Michael Seitzman.
Background
ABC had ordered the pilot episode on January 30, 2012.[1] The pilot show was directed by Phillip Noyce (Revenge).[2] The network has chosen not to air the show.[3]
Cast and characters
- Anthony LaPaglia as Robert Soulter, legendary fashion designer and patriarch of the Soulter's family, Robert Soulter, whose career is in jeopardy when a younger designer arrives on the scene.[4]
- Ashley Greene as Alice Garano, Martin's daughter, a young designer whose shocking arrival turns the family and the legendary label inside out.[5][6][7]
- Emilie de Ravin as Francesca Soulter, Robert Soulter's daughter who is head of events[8][9]
- Christine Adams as Sierra Delon-Soulter, Robert’s wife, a bronze-skinned East African beauty and former supermodel.[10][11]
- Natalie Mendoza as Wendy Law-Soulter, Robert’s ex-wife[12]
- David Alpay as Jesse, Robert’s oldest son who has recently been promoted to co-president of Americana.[13][14]
- Ken Olin as Martin Garano, the owner of a company which makes clothes[15][12]
- Annabeth Gish as Rachel Garano, Alice’s mother[16][17]
- Chris Riggi as Vince Banning, Alice's friend
- Tiffany Hines as Shane Kelly, a medical student and Alice's best friend.[18]
Development and production
The development of the pilot started in 2011. ABC ordered the pilot on January 30, 2012.[1]
Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe Awards winner Anthony LaPaglia became the first actor cast in the pilot in February 18, 2012. LaPaglia play leading role of Robert Soulter.[4] On February 22 Natalie Mendoza and Ken Olin to join the show.[12] On February 24 it was announced that former Lost actress Emilie de Ravin had landed the role of Francesca, Robert Soulter's daughter in the pilot.[8] On February 29 Twilight star Ashley Greene has joined the ensemble as Alice Clarke, the main character of the story.[5] This was to be the first regular role on television for Greene. On February 29 Tiffany Hines joined as Shane Kelly, a medical student and best friend of Alice.[18] The next day Annabeth Gish joined as Rachel, Alice’s mother.[16] On March 6 it was announced that Christine Adams had joined the cast as Robert’s wife Sierra, an east African former supermodel,[11] and David Alpay as his oldest son Jesse.[13]
The script was written by Michael Seitzman (North Country) and produced by ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Company. Executive producers of the show included Mark Gordon, Phillip Noyce, Nicholas Pepper and Seitzman.[10] The pilot was directed by Phillip Noyce (Revenge).[2] ABC has subsequently announced it would not air the pilot.[3]
