Jefferson grew up in Philadelphia and attended Friends Central.[1] where he was coached by Jason Polykoff. He was named a McDonalds All-American in 2012.[2]
In his junior season at Duke, Jefferson was on the Blue Devils' 2014–15 NCAA Championship team.[2] He was a bench player on that team and averaged 6.4 points and 5.7 rebounds a game.[1] Jefferson scored 19 points in a road victory at Louisville and 13 points in an overtime win versus the North Carolina Tar Heels.[3] Jefferson missed the rest of his senior season after suffering a foot injury in December. The Blue Devils lost to Oregon in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Jefferson qualifies for a medical redshirt to gain another year of eligibility.
