Anisha Acharya is a film editor based in Los Angeles and the recipient of the 42nd Student Academy Award, Gold in the Narrative Category for the short film Day One.[1][2][3]
Early life
Acharya belongs to a small place called Baragadia near Duburi in Jajpur district of Odisha.[4] She is a granddaughter of late CK Nagaraja Rao, a renowned writer, dramatist and recipient of Moortidevi Award. Acharya's parents Dr Jagabandhu Acharya and Shambhavi Acharya work in the area of social development and are based in Bangalore, India.[5]
Education and Career
Acharya's was schooled at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, Bangalore. She finished her junior college at Christ Pre-University College [1] and then graduated in accessory design from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bangalore.[5] She went on to study film editing at the American Film Institute, Los Angeles in 2012 and graduated in the year 2014.[1][3]
Acharya has worked on a number of short film. She brings a strong narrative focus to her process and is currently editing two independent feature documentaries.[6]
Filmography
Day One
Acharya edited Day One. The 25-minute drama/war movie was made as part of AFI curriculum and is inspired by the true story of an Afghan-American woman on the heels of a divorce who joins the US military as an interpreter for the US Army and is forced to deliver the child of an enemy bomb-maker on her first day in Afghanistan. The movie bagged the Student Academy Oscar Award out of 1,686 films from 282 domestic and 93 international colleges and universities.[1] The movie is directed and written by Henry Hughes and Dawn DeVoe. The movie has also won the prestigious BAFTA US Student Award and the Student Emmy Award.[4] The movie was also adjudged finalist at the Cannes Emerging Filmmaker Showcase, 2015.[1]
Valdo
Valdo (2014) was Acharya's AFI thesis film. This film was also an official selection at the Dances with Films Festival 2015 and was premiered there.[1] [7]
