Anthony E. Munroe, Ed.D., is the Chairman & CEO of The Munroe Management Group, LLC, a healthcare management and leadership consulting practice. He most recently served as president of Advocate Trinity Hospital and was recently named one of the Top 25 Minority Healthcare Executives in the United States by Modern Healthcare Magazine. He was also internationally honored as the Robert S. Hudgen' national award recipient Healthcare Executive of the Year in 2003 by the American College of Healthcare Executives and as one of the Modern Healthcare and Witt/Kieffer Up & Comers. Previously, he served as president of St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and as president and chief executive officer of the Economic Opportunity Family Health Center, Miami, Florida. A widely recognized and profoundly effective leader, Munroe successfully served in various executive positions in New York City and Decatur, Georgia, Munroe is nationally recognized for his expertise in healthcare leadership, strategy, cultural competency/diversity in healthcare, health systems leadership, and as a healthcare futurist.
Professionally, Munroe is a Fellow and a board certified healthcare executive of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He was an active member of the ACHE Chief Executive Officer's Committee for three years and has completed a term as Chairman of this Committee. Dr. Munroe has also served on the Regents Advisory Council/ACHE for South Florida for three years, National Association of Health Services Executives and other associations.
Education
Munroe was reared in the Bronx, New York. Dr. Munroe completed his doctoral studies earning an Ed.D. in Health Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University. His undergraduate degree is from Excelsior College (then Regents College). He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Munroe has held a national committee vice chairman position in the fraternity.
Community service
Munroe has served on the Board of Directors of Health Choice Network as a Member, Treasurer and now Secretary; Advisor to The Miami Fellows Program; Scottdale Child Development Center, Decatur, GA; and the Community Advisory Board of the Brooklyn Medical Center – New York University. He served on the Columbia University Joseph Mailman School of Public Health's Alumni Executive Advisory Board. Munroe is a member of the New Birth Cathedral Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia and attends his local church, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, IL.
Achievements
As one of the first ten Kellogg Foundation and Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's national Public Health Fellows, Munroe has received national recognition for his academic accomplishments in addition to his noted expertise in areas such as leadership, turn around management, strategy and cultural competency. He has a number of other articles and research projects which have been accepted for presentation and publication. Munroe was a featured speaker during the Economic Summit coordinated and sponsored by the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The Mayor and Board of Commissioners for Miami-Dade County with a Proclamation designating 'Anthony E. Munroe Day' have also recognized Munroe for his service and expertise. He has also received a prestigious the Congressional Certificate for his work in health care. Munroe has also presented at the International AIDS Conference in Barcelona, Spain and Paris, France.
