Anthony Scaramucci (born January 6, 1964) is an American financier, entrepreneur and author.[1] He is the founder and a co-managing partner of investment firm SkyBridge Capital.[2] Scaramucci is the host of Wall Street Week, an investment news show airing Friday nights on the Fox Business Network,[3] and a regular contributor to the Fox News Channel.[4] In 2011, he was the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award New York Award in the Financial Services category.[5] In 2016, Scaramucci was ranked #85 in Worth magazine's "Power 100: The 100 Most Powerful People in Global Finance."[6] In 2016, he was one of 16 people named to President-elect Donald Trump's Presidential Transition Team Executive Committee.[7]

Early life and education

Scaramucci was born on January 6, 1964 in Long Island, New York, and had a middle-class upbringing. His father was a construction worker.[2] He earned a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.[8]

Career

After graduating from law school, Scaramucci began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked from 1989 to 1996 and held positions in its Investment Banking, Equities and Private Wealth Management divisions.[9][10] In 1996, he left Goldman to launch Oscar Capital Management with his colleague Andrew Boszhardt.[11] In 2001, Oscar Capital was sold to Neuberger Berman and, upon Neuberger Berman’s sale to Lehman Brothers in 2003, Scaramucci served as a managing director in its Investment Management division.[9][12] In 2005, he founded SkyBridge Capital, a global alternative investment firm,[13] where he currently serves as co-managing partner.

Scaramucci is the chairman of the SkyBridge Alternatives “SALT” Conference, launched in 2009 and held in Las Vegas every spring.[14] In May 2014, SkyBridge licensed the rights to Wall Street Week, a financial television news program formerly hosted by Louis Rukeyser on PBS, and installed Scaramucci as host. Broadcast rights were transferred the rights to Fox Broadcasting Company in 2016.[15]

Other activities

Scaramucci is the author of Goodbye Gordon Gekko: How to Find Your Fortune Without Losing Your Soul,[16][17] The Little Book of Hedge Funds: What You Need to Know About Hedge Funds but the Managers Won’t Tell You,[18] and Hopping Over the Rabbit Hole: How Entrepreneurs Turn Failure Into Success.[19] He is a member of the World Economic Forum and speaks at the annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.[20] He is the vice chair of the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund Board and a trustee of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Foundation.[21] He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Philanthropy

Scaramucci is an active philanthropist. He is a board member of Warrior Gateway,[22] Business Executives for National Security (BENS)[23] and The Brain Tumor Foundation.[5] In 2011, he was honored for his humanitarian efforts by Hedge Fund Cares[24] at its 13th Annual New York Open Your Heart to the Children Benefit and Alicia Keys’ Keep a Child Alive 8th Annual Black Ball.[25]

In April 2016, Scaramucci was one of three New York Mets fans who teamed up to buy Mike Piazza's jersey from the September 21, 2001 game against the Atlanta Braves, the first professional baseball game played following the 9/11 attacks. The jersey was purchased in a private auction for $365,000, the highest price ever paid for a modern-day jersey. The jersey will be publicly displayed on a rotating basis between the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Citi Field and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.[26]

Politics

Scaramucci is a registered Republican and served as a National Finance Co-Chair for Mitt Romney for President in 2012. Previously, he was a supporter of President Barack Obama.[27] In September 2010, Scaramucci asked Obama at a CNBC Town Hall meeting when he was going to "stop whacking Wall Street like a piñata."[28] He is a former member of the New York City Financial Services Advisory Committee (2007-2012).[29] In May 2016, he signed on to Donald Trump's political campaign by joining the Trump Finance Committee.[30] In November 2016, he was named to President-elect Donald Trump's Presidential Transition Team Executive Committee.[31]
