Anyone is a band from Southern California that formed in 1995. Their 2001 self-titled album was released on Roadrunner Records. The band are credited with creating the genre known as "maximum acid", combining a heavy metal sound with psychedelic rock influences. Anyone is the brainchild of Riz Story, the band's lead singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, and also the only member of the band that has remained since its inception. Former members include Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters, Alanis Morissette), Jon Davidson (YES, Sky Cries Mary) and David Silveria (Korn).

ANYONE received much critical acclaim for its label debut throughout the international press, especially in Europe. The band toured extensively on the album, notably at the Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and Lowland Festival as well as 3 American tours. The album received many honors including being named #9 on the metal hammer year end chart for Metal Hammer's Albums Of 2001 list.[3] Other awards include "best band" Los Angeles Music Awards.

History

The group was preceded by the band Sylvia, consisting of Story, drummer Taylor Hawkins, guitarist Sean Murphy and Jon "Juano" Davison, which dissolved when Hawkins joined Alanis Morissette's band, and Murphy began to work with bands Magdalen and Divinorum, besides his solo career. This led to Story's formation of Anyone in 1995,[1] him being joined by bassist "Static" and drummer Dave "Nipples" Murray.

In 1996, Anyone's first demo album Rats Live on no Evil Star (a palindrome) was recorded. Although never officially released, the album paved the way for the band to approach record labels.[2] The live album Live Acid was released in 1999, and by 2001 the band were signed to Roadrunner Records and were working with record producer Rick Parashar, and released their self-titled full-length debut, Anyone in that year.[1] The single "Don't Wake Me" was shown on the Kerrang! music channel as well as MTV. RoadRunner Records then dropped Anyone. After dropping the band RoadRunner Records pulled the album from circulation entirely, making the debut album by Anyone a rare collectors item.

Johnny Ransom replaced Nipples as drummer in 2002, and both Ransom and "Static" were replaced in 2004 by "Boano" as drummer, and Miki Black as guitarist and keyboardist and Miles Martin on bass. The DVD The Story of Maximum Acid was released, as was the EP A Little Sip in 2006.

Story disbanded Anyone in 2006 to pursue film making. At this time Story began writing and producing for other artists as well as heading his multi media entertainment company TogethermenT. Story began working with ex-Korn drummer David Silveria in 2012 when the two formed the band Infinika. The debut album "Echoes and Traces" was released worldwide on September 1, 2014.

On April 10, 2016 the announcement was made that "Echoes and Traces" would be re-released under the band name Anyone.

Reemergence

The album "Echoes and Traces" was re-released in October 2016 featuring updated mixes and mastering. The first single released was "Fly Away" which quickly climbed to #8 on the BILLBOARD Hot Singles Chart.[3][4] The album signified the return of Anyone. A new official website was launched in October 2016.[5] 5 Songs from the "Echos and Traces" album are featured in the film and soundtrack for Riz Story's motion picture, "A WInter Rose".

In October it was announced that a new ANYONE record was in production at Riz Story's TogethermenT Studios in Hollywood. Story described the work in progress as, "MAXIMUM progressive - MAXIMUM psychedelic - MAXIMUM ethereal - MAXIMUM HEAVY" on the bands official Facebook page.[6] No date has been announced for the release.

Music

They have been compared to Jane's Addiction, Radiohead and Tool.[1] "Maximum Acid" is the term the press used to describe their unique sound, as a fusion of hard progressive rock and psychedelia.[7] ANYONE covers a wide range of dynamics ranging from moody, ethereal space ballads (She and Echoes) to progressive uptempo heavy rock (Running Dry). Lyrical content is often poetic or philosophical (Wait until Morning) and sometimes whimsical (Dear Sylvia). It is rumored that the band were forced by RoadRunner Records (known for its Heavy Metal bands) to leave the band's most experimental music off of the debut record and focus on their heavier material. The overall sound of the band expanded drastically in 2014 with the release of "Echo's and Traces". There are several acoustic titles (Over Before it Begins part 1 & 2) as well as the larger scale composition "Traces". There is a large library of unreleased ANYONE music, much of it is said to capture the band's tendency to experiment with mood and structure. ANYONE were distinguished by their frequent improvisations during live performances. One of these improvisations was captured on the "Live Acid" record, although the track was hidden as track #99 and was unlisted anywhere in the credits.
