April Rose Pengilly (born 12 April 1988; pronounced pen-gill-ee), also known as April Rose, is an Australian actress and former model. April is the daughter of Karen Hutchinson and INXS member Kirk Pengilly.[1]
Early life
Pengilly attended Wenona, a girls school on the North Shore of Sydney. She dabbled in modelling as a child, sporadically returning to it in her latter years of high school, and after graduating in 2005 decided to pursue it full-time under the pseudonym of April Rose—avoiding the Pengilly surname to separate herself from her famous father. Career
April Rose Pengilly is an actress (previously a model) and is currently represented by Australian management company Benchmark Creative.
She was previously represented by Chadwick Management from 2004 to 2012 and Warehouse 16/Morrissey Management from 2012 to 2014.
April Rose Pengilly began her career at the age of 16, as a model in her hometown of Sydney, Australia. After graduating from one of Australia’s top private schools, she started modelling full-time, building a name for herself by walking for leading designers at Australian Fashion Week, living and working in Tokyo, Osaka, London and New York, and fronting major campaigns. She has worked with top photographers Terry Richardson. Rankin, Steven Chee, Nick Scott, Nicole Bentley, Pierre Toussaint, James Demitri and Bradley Patrick. and Terry Richardson and featured on magazine covers and in editorials for InStyle (Australia), Elle (UK), The Times (UK), Harper’s Bazaar (Australia), Marie Claire, Oyster, Seventeen (US), and Glitter (Japan) and countless others. April was also selected for many elite roles, including ambassador for leading Australian department store David Jones, face of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (since renamed the Virgin Atlantic Melbourne Fashion Festival), face of the Nokia L’amour cell phone collection, ambassador for Sony, ambassador for Barbie and the “legs” of Japanese stocking label ATSUGI.
In 2009, April was named Ambassador for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, working alongside J. Alexander and Doutzen Kroes.[2] She also worked as a TV presenter for Fashion TV at London Fashion Week, before returning to Sydney for filming commitments.[3]
April began studying acting in her spare time, building on her high school theatre skills at top Sydney institutions such as NIDA and Actor’s Centre Australia. She was soon cast in her first major project, with a role in the feature film "LBF" (2011), based on the cult classic Australian novel Living Between Fucks by Cry Bloxsome. She starred alongside Australian acting heavyweights Toby Schmidt, Gracie Otto, Septamus Caton and Bianca Chiaminello in the film, directed by Alex Munt, which premiered internationally at South By Southwest festival, and in Australia as part of the Sydney Film Festival.
She continued to pursue acting, gaining lead and supporting roles in films, TV series pilots, music videos and international commercials. She starred in the independent short film "Object" (2013), which continues to screen extensively, most recently at the Cannes Film Festival and St Tropez Film Festival, and at several Australians in Film showcases in Los Angeles.
April Rose Pengilly signed up for the fourteenth season of Dancing with the Stars in 2014 and was paired with professional Aric Yegudkin. Her controversial elimination (viewed by the public to be the fault of fellow contestant Mark Holden) spawned an enormous social media backlash and almost saw her returned to the show.
In 2015, April had a guest role in the acclaimed Channel 7 miniseries "Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door" and signed on as an ambassador for the charity Alzheimer's Australia, adding to her previous involvements with charities including The Eye Foundation, SunSCHine/Sydney Children’s Hospital and the RSPCA.
April was nominated for PETA's annual Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity Awards in 2014.
April has been a celebrity guest panellist on leading Australian morning show Sunrise and has worked as a television host, covering London Fashion Week for Fashion TV and presenting at the live MTV Classic Australia channel launch event alongside rock legend Slash. She was the first person to be seen and heard on the new MTV Classic channel when it went live.
April began a popular fashion and lifestyle blog in 2011, which was nominated for the Pedestrian.TV Blogster Awards in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
