Atlas Improv Co.
Atlas Improv Co. is a professional improvisational theatre company in Madison, WI. The company was formed in 2004 by a group of former ComedySportz Madison players seeking greater creative opportunities. They have maintained a Theatresports certification and regularly perform Theatresports matches at their shows. Atlas also performs long-form improv, including creating and developing original formats. Multiple formats may be performed in a single night during the Atlas Showcase Show.
The artistic goals and community service make Atlas Improv Co. an influential and important performance-based institution in Wisconsin. Since its inception, Atlas has striven to move the art of improv forward by exploring and maintaining a distinct style of character-based improvised storytelling. It also offers public workshops, private shows and corporate team-building and is involved with many community events in Madison including teaching workshops at local schools and youth centers.
Examples of improv formats Atlas has performed are Harold, LeRonde, Armando Diaz, Slacker, Improvised Shakespeare, Newspaper, Hero's Journey, No Conflict Scene and Montage as well as one- and two-person shows. Examples of original formats are The Line and Blog. In 2010 Atlas also began writing and performing sketch comedy.
Atlas Alumni in Entertainment
- Anne Johnson and Gabe Gronli wrote and performed sketch comedy as members of Free Love Forum. Gabe is also a writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.[1]
- Caroline Creaghead founded Creaghead & Company
- Matt Fanale performs as Caustic[2]
- Phil Galfond is a professional poker player and is the founder and lead pro at Bluefire Poker as well as the poker media site, Pokerstatic.[3]
