It was originally built by a consortium of eight universities together with other organisations such as the Australia Council, PASIG (Performing Arts Special Interest Group) and the Playbox Theatre, and was funded by the Australian Research Council.[3] It was launched in pilot mode in October 2002.[4][5] To date AusStage has received funding from the Australian Research Council, the National eResearch Architecture Taskforce, the Australian National Data Service and the Australian Access Federation.
Current partners in the project are Flinders University, RMIT, University of Queensland, Deakin University, Macquarie University, Edith Cowan University, La Trobe University, Monash University, Murdoch University, Queensland University of Technology, the University of Ballarat, the University of Newcastle, University of New England, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, University of Tasmania, University of Western Sydney, Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, NIDA, Australia Council, Adelaide Festival, Windmill Performing Arts, Performing Arts Special Interest Group of Museums Australia.[6]
