The 2010–11 Azadegan League will be the xxth season of the second-level football league competition of Iran. It will be divided into two phases, the regular season, played from 22 September 2010 to May 2011, and the playoff phase from May to June 2011.
The league will also be composed of 28 teams divided into two divisions of 14 teams each, whose teams will be divided geographically. Teams will play only other teams in their own division, once at home and once away for a total of 26 matches each.
In each division, one team are promoted to Persian Gulf Cup, and one team enter into a play-off and two teams are relegated to the third-level Second Division. In total, the league promotes three teams to Persian Gulf Cup and relegates four teams to the Second Division.
Events
Start of season
- The league was to feature three teams relegated from Persian Gulf Cup in 2009–10; Esteghlal Ahvaz, F.C. Aboomoslem, and Moghavemat Sepasi.
- The League also featured four teams promoted from The 2nd division: Sepidrood Rasht, Naft Masjed Soleyman, Foolad Yazd, and Shahrdari Yasuj.
- Mehrkam Pars, (formerly of Tehran) was bought by the city of Sari in the province of Mazandaran. The new team will be known as Sanat Sari F.C..
- Machine Sazi ended its 2009–10 Iran Football's 2nd Division campaign in 4th place (Group A) and could not promote to the Azadegan League. But They bought Petrochimi licence. So They will play in the Azadegan League 2010–11.
- Shensa Arak was replaced by Hamyari Arak.[1]
- Sepahan Novin was replaced by Foolad Natanz.[1][2]
