The village of Bahirwali ( Marathi: बहिरवली Urdu:بھرولی) is the largest village in Khed Taluka of Ratnagiri district in Konkan. The village is located near the bank of the river Jugbudi River and Vashishti, 30 kilometers from Khed.
It is divided into several localities like Bahirwali No 1, Bahirwali No. 2, Bahirwali No 3, Bahirwali Buddha Wadi,Bahirwali Kunbhi Wadi,Bahirwali Tap wadi,Bahirwali Lad wadi and Bahirwali Bhoi wadi.
Culture and religion
There is tradition of interfaith harmony among Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists of the village with mutual respect for values and tradition.
Most of the Kokani Muslims are descendants of Muslims who converted peacefully by Sufi branch of Islam. The area is dominated by Chougles.
History
The village was probably inhabited during the rule of Sultan Yousuf Adil Shah in Konkan in the 15th century. The first settlement of Bahirwali was at an island in the center of the Jugburi river called “Diva”. As circumstances changed and population grew, people started moving to the mainland opposite to the island.
Government Organization
The Gram Panchayat is responsible for administrative and developmental work. It is headed by the Sarpanch of the village. The Gram Panchayat is now divided into two parts for better management.
Social and Developmental Organization
The Village of Bahirwali No. 1, 2 and 3 are socially administered by each Jamat(organization) called Jamatul Muslimeen Bahirwali.
Festivals
The URS of Ibrahim Shaikh (Sufi Saint) is celebrated every year during the month of February. Dr Babasaheb ambedkar jayanti, budha jayanti, vijaya dashmi, sai baba utsav-(Shigvanwadi , Bahirawali) , hanuman jayanti, mahashiv ratri(Someshwar Temple -Bhaganewadi,Bahirawali),, GANESH UTSAV and shimga(HOLI).
Transport
State Transport (S.T.) 1st bus service at 5am from Khed bus stand runs between Khed and Panhalje regularly along with Rickshaw and car service. The City of Chiplun is much closer from (KARMBAWANE VILLAGE)the opposite side of the creek VASHISHTI (16 km) than Khed City (30 km) and is mostly preferred by all Bahirwalikars for their marketing as this mode of marketing is the oldest. KOKAN RAILWAY FROM MUMBAI TO KHED (BY EXPRESS MAILS)& MUMBAI TO ANJANI RAILWAY STATION (BY RATNAGIRI PASANGER)is much closer from the opposite side of the creek VASHISHTI RIVER.
