Balneario da Toxa
The Balneario da Toxa (Galician for: Spa of the A Toxa Island) or Grand Hotel of A Toxa is a spa-hotel located in Island of A Toxa, in Galicia, Spain.
In 1945 suffered a restoration, making an almost complete refurbishment, although various old elements subsist.
History
18th century story
since in 1808 local fishermen of the ria realized the warm waters of the island; In those days, local fishermen inadvertently walked for medicinal waters, they noticed in the skin its healing qualities. so later, a loaded donkey with number of ulcers and ringworm was abandoned by its owner on the island and after a few months which would be the surprise of the owner to find the healthy animal and jumping happily. the donkey wallowed in the healthy mud and wounds disappeared. So narrates the Countess of Pardo Bazán in 1911. This story help to make way for the creation of a Grand Hotel in A Toxa.
Former Balneario de A Toxa
in 1907 is inaugurated this hotel, based on the spas of the time as the Marienbad in Germany.
Were built two pavilions, one of rooms and the casino, connected by a gallery, the architect chosen was Daniel Vázquez Gulias. The interior decoration with frescoes in the halls and stairs took a room at the time of class and fame, were many who were approaching to A Toxa, was at that time compelled site for the upper class of Galicia. The hotel lived boom years, had fame across the peninsula and came to the court in Madrid, at the time A Toxa was already placed on the map as a place of spa.
Restoration
In 1945 in a restoration, the towers are pulled and is done an almost complete refurbishment. Today it is a five stars classy hotel maintained by its director Francisco Marcos, striking the staircase and windows reminiscent old good days, the rooms now restored, has furniture from the old time, and has views of the island. From the time also there are columns, all the rest is new.[1]
