Barry Audia

Barry Alan Audia (born August 1, 1957) (alias "The Pennington Pounder") is a former professional boxer from Pennington Gap, Virginia. He began his boxing career in the early 1970s and turned professional in 1980. His professional career lasted until his official resignation in 1987. Audia fought as a middleweight for the duration of his career. His ranking as a boxer peaked in the mid-1980s at number 7 in the world.[1]

Boxing career

Barry Audia had 33 professional bouts. Out of these, he won 28 (KO 16) and lost 5 (KO 1). He traveled to various places across the continental United States and to parts of Europe for his fights. Audia fought notable boxers such as Thomas Smith,[2] Tommy Rogers, and Giovanni Bovenzi.

Life After Boxing

After his last successful fight against Gary Thomas in Bristol, Tennessee, Barry Audia officially resigned as a professional boxer. He now runs and operates Audia’s Boxing Gym in Pennington Gap, VA.[3]

In 1989, he met his present wife Paula Audia. The couple married in 1991. They are still together with one son, Barry Alan Audia II.[4] They currently reside in Lee County, Virginia, where Audia was born and has lived for most of his life.
