Best Selection 2010 is a Japanese greatest hits album released by South Korean pop group Tohoshinki, containing songs from their albums Heart, Mind and Soul, Five in the Black, T and The Secret Code. It also features four new singles, two which are certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). Best Selection 2010 is the last new album release by the original lineup of Tohoshinki.

The album was released on February 17, 2010 in Japan in three editions: a 2CD+DVD version, a 1CD+DVD version, and a CD version. Best Selection 2010 was the group's first album to reach number one on the Oricon Albums Chart, and is the first album by a foreign band to have first-week sales of 400,000 copies in Japan. Best Selection 2010 was certified 2× Platinum by the RIAJ and is Tohoshinki's best-selling album of their career.[1] It is also the best-selling greatest hits album by a foreign artist in Japan.

Chart performance

Best Selection 2010 debuted at number-one on the Oricon Daily Album Chart, selling 228,542 copies on the first day.[2][3] By the end of the first week, the album maintained its number-one rank on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart by selling a total of 412,861 copies. As a result, Best Selection 2010 became the group's first number-one album in Japan. They broke a 14-year record and set the mark for the highest first-week sales by a foreign group, which was last set by Bon Jovi in 1995 with 379,000 copies sold.[4]

Tohoshinki's Best Selection 2010 also debuted number-one on the Global United Charts, making their album the number-one sales in the world. The 412,861 album sales from Tohoshinki beat out other artists like Sade, Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas that week. With this accomplishment, they have surpassed Backstreet Boys and Bon Jovi who used to hold the #1 and #2 spots before Best Selection 2010 was released.[4]

On March 11, 2010, Best Selection 2010 was certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for shipping over 500,000 copies.[5][6] On December 20, 2010, Oricon reported the Yearly Album Chart for 2010, Best Selection 2010 ranked in 7th place with a total sales of 569,530 copies, making it the highest selling album by a foreign group at the time.[7]

After only 2 days of release in the Philippine market, Best Selection 2010 landed on the number one spot in Astrovision and Astroplus’s Overall & International Album Chart. It outsold albums by Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift & the Glee soundtrack. This is Tohoshinki’s first number one album in the country.
