Bidhannagar Govt. High School, or BNGHS, is an educational institution in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It is situated in BD block in Salt lake and hence also popularly referred as BD School. It is the first government co-educational senior secondary school established in West Bengal. The medium of teaching is Bengali and English. The school is affiliated to West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
History
Bidhan Nagar Government High school was established in 1977 (officially on 18 April) with 50 students. It was started as a secondary school only. The first Head-master was Sri. Satyendranath Ray. In its early days BNGHS was surrounded by lush green fields and trees. The school building is one of the oldest buildings in Salt Lake. It has seen the whole Salt lake become urbanized around it.
Campus
BNGHS consists of one two storied (partially three) academic building, one five storied lab building and a small field in front where football is played. The inner cemented lawn also serves as courts for badminton and basketball. BNGHS also has a common room equipped with two table tennis tables.
The academic building houses classes from 1 to 12. The lab building houses chemistry, physics, biology, geography and computer labs. There is a music room in the building. A projector room has been set up in the academic building where study materials are explained with the aid of computer graphics.
Cultural events
- The school magazine Baluchor is published once in every three years.
- The annual art, craft and science exhibition takes place during Saraswati Puja.
- The annual prize distribution for academic excellence takes place just before the Durga Puja holidays.
- The Saraswati Puja is the most celebrated event in BNGHS. The goddess of knowledge is worshiped with reverence & enthusiasm.
- The picnic and excursion for junior years are held every year. For class XI an excursion is organized. It is scheduled as a two-day trip to a tourist spot far from the city.
Sports events
The sports meet is held every year post Republic Day celebration. Inter-House tournaments also take place.

Uniform
- Boys: white Shirt with appliqued badge and royal blue/white shorts/trousers.
- Girls: white shirt appliqued badge and royal blue skirt (up to class X).
- White and Blue chequered kameez and royal blue salwar (XI-XII).
Alumni Association
BNGHS has a registered alumni association which plays a key role in keeping pass-out students in touch with the school. Apart from supervising the annual reunion, it holds seminars and workshops to give the present students information on higher studies. The association issues a Merit cum Means scholarship which is given to the most deserving student below class 10 level.
Retrospect (the annual reunion)
The pass-out students of the school organize a reunion every year under the supervision of the Bidhan Nagar Government High School Alumni Association. The reunion goes by the name Retrospect. Hundreds of ex students visit their Alma Mater on this day. Besides gossip and food Retrospect offers live performances by soloists and bands. Over the years it has seen performances by Lakkhichara, Cactus, Bhoomi, Nachiketa, and Anjan Dutt.
