Bill Burgess (born January 26, 1941) is an American football player and coach in the United States. In 2011 he was inducted into the Division II Hall of Fame.[1]

Playing career

Burgess played fullback for the Auburn Tigers and earned an athletic letter for the 1964 season[2] under head coach Ralph Jordan.

Coaching career

Burgess was the head college football coach for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks located in Jacksonville, Alabama. He held that position for 12 seasons, from 1985 until 1996. His coaching record at Jacksonville State was 85 wins, 48 losses and 4 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2016 season, this ranks him #3 at Jacksonville State in total wins and #7 at the school in winning percentage (.635).[3] In 1992, he led his team to the NCAA Division II National Championship.[4]
