The bitterling-like cyprinids form the cyprinid subfamily Acheilognathinae. This subfamily contains six genera and at least 71 described species to date.[1] Over half of the species are in the genus Acheilognathus.

- Acanthorhodeus – spiny bitterlings
- Acheilognathus (42 species)
- Paratanakia (one species)
- Pseudorhodeus (one species)
- Rhodeus – (typical) bitterlings (22 species)
- Tanakia (four species)
