The name was part of a joke in the 1994 Itchy & Scratchy Land episode of The Simpsons. Bart Simpson looks for merchandise in a theme park with his name but cannot find any. He is incredulous to discover there are Bort license plates for sale, only to discover a child and man nearby both named Bort. The joke that there are many people named Bort becomes a running gag when an employee in the command center of the park announces that they need more Bort license plates in the gift shop.
