Brian Thomas Dunford (born June 25, 1987), aka Brian Dunford, is an American ice hockey defenceman. Currently, he plays in the Turkish Ice Hockey Super League for Zeytinburnu BS in Istanbul, Turkey. The 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in) tall player at 82 kg (181 lb) shoots left-handed.[1]
Playing career
Dunford began his sport career with the Boston Bulldogs in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, a tier III junior ice hockey league, in 2006. Until 2012, he played in various ice hockey leagues in his country for the teams Laconia Leafs (2007–08), Lebanon Valley College (2008–09), Pensacola Ice Flyers and Evansville Icemen (2009–10), Rome Frenzy (2010–11), Lapeer Loggers and Brooklyn Aviators (2011–12). End of 2011, he moved to Turkey to appear one season in the Turkish Ice Hockey Super League for Erzurum Gençlik SK.[2][3] The next season, he transferred to the Swedish team Malungs IF, which played in the Division 3. Returned home, he was with Danville Dashers. In the 2013–14 season, he played in New Zealand for the Southern Stampede, which competed in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League. Back again home, Dunford appeared a brief time for the Sun Valley Suns.[3] He moved to Turkey a second time to join Koç University's ice hockey team.[3] After playing the 2015–16 season for Erzurum BB GSK,[4][5] he signed for the Istanbul-based league-champion team Zeytinburnu Belediyespor in 2016.[1][6]
He took part at the first round of the 2016–17 IIHF Continental Cup held in Serbia, which his team Zeytinburnu BSK finished as group champion, and advanced to the second round in Spain.[6]
Coaching career
In 2012, Dunford coached players of the Turkish U20 team. He was appointed assistant coach of the Turkish U20 and U18 teams in 2016, responsible for the defense and physical fitness.[4]
