CANTAT-1

CANTAT-1 was the first Canadian transatlantic telephone cable, which followed on from the success of TAT-1 It was conceived and approved as stage one of a proposed commonwealth round the world cable.^[1] It operated from 1961 to 1986, initially carrying 80 telephone circuits (simultaneous calls) ^[2] between Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Widemouth Bay, United Kingdom. It was operated by Teleglobe.
