Canadian College Italy

Canadian College Italy, also known as CCI, is a Canadian independent school in Lanciano, Abruzzo, Italy. The school is a co-educational university-preparatory school for grades 10 to 12.

CCI operates under the supervision of the Ontario Ministry of Education, as outlined by the Ministry's guidelines for Overseas Schools]. CCI offers the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and is a member of the European Council of Independent Schools, ECIS. The school prepares students for entrance into universities in the U.S.A., U.K., Canada and Europe. The school motto is Perge et Valeas (Proceed and you shall Succeed).

History

CCI was founded in 1995. It houses 80-100 students per year from a variety of countries, and has graduated more than 1,500 students since its founding.

Facilities

The main school building, which contains twelve classrooms, is a 14th-century three story stone and brick palazzo which is located on Via Cavour. This was a family home as early as the 1300s, and was later used as the Canadian Headquarters for troops during the World War II. The school has a library, study and computer spaces, two Art rooms and a Science lab.

CCI boys and their Don reside at The Allegria, the oldest inn in Lanciano, a few minutes away from the school, which also functions as the main dining restaurant for the students.

The girls' residence, Santa Maria, is an antique three-story building that can house up to forty. It is one of the largest buildings in the historical quarter and it is lined with balconies that face the main square and the rooftops of Lanciano.

Academics

Canadian College Italy delivers a Canadian high school curriculum, grades 10 through high school graduation, supplemented by experiences with ancient and modern Europe, through trips with the school and through daily life in an Italian town. All courses are taught in English, except for Italian language. The teacher-to-student ratio is one-to-twelve.

CCI runs a Summer Academy, during which students can complete one academic credit.

Travel

Trips to cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Sorrento and Pompeii are part of the curriculum and are organized by the teachers.

Athletics and clubs

CCI Athletics and Clubs program is based on a house system. Weekly participation in either sports clubs or non-sports related clubs is mandatory as students accumulate house points for their respective teams.
