Cantonment MRT Station (CC31) is a future Mass Rapid Transit station on the Circle Line in Bukit Merah planning area, Singapore. The station was announced as part of Stage 6 of the Circle Line in 2015 and slated to be completed in 2025. It will be located within the compound of the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.
History
This station was first announced on 29 October 2015.[1] It takes its name from the nearby Cantonment Road.
Cantonment station will be built in the vicinity of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, with its design inspired by the old train station.
The heritage building, which has been designated as a National Monument, will not be affected, the Land Transport Authority said. However, parts of the former railway station's platform will need to be removed for the new underground Cantonment station.
The former railways and platforms could also be used as terminating platforms. If so, the terminating platforms would be the only part of the Circle Line that is not underground.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has decided to dismantle the old platforms and then reinstate it after construction of the station is completed.[2]
