Canvas Ventures is a venture capital firm located in Portola Valley, California in Silicon Valley. Canvas is an early-stage venture firm that closed an inaugural fund of $175M in August 2013.[1] Canvas closed its second fund of $300M in September 2016.[2]
Firm
Canvas was initially managed by Rebecca Lynn, Gary Little, and Gary Morgenthaler, but expanded to include Paul Hsiao who joined the investment team in May 2014, and Ben Narasin in September 2015. The team uses a thesis-based approach to investing and specializes in financial services, enterprise SaaS, digital health, marketplaces, real estate, education, gaming, and machine learning.
Canvas was named the No.1 “VC Firm to Watch” on the 2015 Midas List by Forbes.[3]
In March 2014, Lynn was ranked #23 on Forbes' 2015 Midas List of top 100 tech investors and #2 on the Newcomers' List.[4]
In March 2016, Lynn was ranked #20 on The New York Times' Top 20 Venture Capital Investors Worldwide.[5] Lynn led an early-stage investment in Lending Club, which went public in 2014.[6]
Investments
Canvas currently has investments in HealthLoop, Totango, FutureAdvisor, CrowdFlower, Eden, Viewics, Transfix, and Zola.
They led the Series A round of financing for HealthLoop which closed at $10 million.[7] They also led a Series B round of financing for Totango for Totango that raised $19.3 million.[8]
In addition, Canvas recently led the Series B round of funding for FutureAdvisor, which raised $15.5 million.[9]
Canvas led the Series C round of funding for CrowdFlower which raised $12.5 million.[10] Crowdflower recently took home the Best-In-Show Award at Finovate as a crowd favourite.[11]
Canvas Ventures led the $8M Series A investment in their fifth portfolio company, Viewics.[12]
Canvas Ventures led $12M Series A investment in their sixth portfolio company, Transfix.[13]
Canvas led the $10M Seris B round of funding for their seventh portfolio company, Zola.[14]
