Carl "Buster" Smith
Carl "Buster" Smith (1921 – 1992) was an eleven-time "Top Master" champion in pool checkers. He won from 1967 to 1992.[1]
He began in his native Chicago and was citywide champion by 17. He remained Chicago's best player until his death. He rarely played for money so made his living working for the post office.[2]
In 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1978 Carl Smith participated in the World Championships for the international draughts variant. His best achievement was a 5th place in 1976.
