Carrousel is a French-Swiss band which founded in Southern France in Summer 2007. The band officially released their debut album Tandem in February 1, 2010 in France and Switzerland and second album En équilibre followed it in June 18, 2012. Also they released a single titled "J'avais rendez-vous" in November 2012 and took part with this song on Swiss national final in Bodensee, Switzerland to the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 was held in Malmö, Sweden.[1] So, Carrousel finished the national final in the second place with 17.26% of televoting after Heilsarmee's "You and Me" (which won the national final with 37.54% of public voting).[2]
History
2007–2011: Early years and Tandem
In Summer 2007, Sophie Burande from Auvergne, France who is playing an accordion and Léonard Gogniat from Switzerland who got a guitar met in the Southern France. Since then they have never left each other, so Carrousel project started and they took stage for the first time and they had a string of concerts in 2009. By the way, the duo won the Lausanne Radio Active Awards and Poly'Sons Montbrison in same year.[3]
Releasing of the debut album of Carrousel, Tandem followed these all and it has become a springboard for band's musical career: their songs seen on the radio channels and that gave the chance to the duo to take stage in famous events such as Paléo Festival, Rock Oz'Arènes and Montreux Jazz Festival. So, band started to play outside Switzerland and seen on the Télévision Suisse Romande's show "Passe-moi les Jumelles". And Carrousel had a tourne during this period.[3]
2012–today: En équilibre, "J'avais rendez-vous" and summer tour
With the end of 2011, band marks a break to their first ever tour and started to prepare to their second album, En équilibre. Out of themselves, duo wrote the songs in album with many other musicians. They explained the album that "contains the world of Carrousel with many instruments". The album also was released in France with the L’Autre Distribution label. The band take part in lots of festivals and had concerts across the Switzerland in early 2012.[3]
In November 2012, Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), the French speaking national channel of Switzerland reported that Carrousel will compete in the Swiss national final for Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Kreuzlingen along with the other eight candidates. So, Carrousel announced the song "J'avais rendez-vous" to race in December 15, 2013 in the Bodensee Arena. End of the televoting, "J'avais rendez-vous" became the runner-up of the show with 17.26% of public televoting, after the winner "You and Me" of Heilsarmee (which won the national final with 37.54% of public voting).[2]
Participating on Swiss Eurovision national final, has made the band better-known in the Swiss German public, so Carrousel had a summer tour in 2013 including Switzerland, France and Germany. In late December 2013, they released their summer tour as a DVD and a CD including their live performances which they had during their summer tour, titled Un tour de live.[4]
