Century Casinos
Century Casinos, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNTY) is a gaming company based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The company owns and operates five casinos in Colorado and Alberta. It also operates casinos on cruise ships for Oceania, TUI, Windstar, and Regent Seven Seas, and manages a casino at the Radisson Aruba.[1] It owns a 67 percent share in Casinos Poland, which owns and operates nine casinos in Poland.[2]
History
Century Casinos was formed in 1992 by several executives of Casinos Austria.[3][4]
In 2007, the company paid $8.7 million to acquire a 33 percent stake in Casinos Poland.[5] Century increased its stake to 67 percent in April 2013.[2]
In December 2012, Century announced an agreement to finance and manage a horse track and casino to be built in Balzac, Alberta.[6] The casino opened in April 2015.[7] The expansion in Alberta continued in June 2016 with an agreement to purchase the Apex Casino in St. Albert, Alberta for $12.3 million.[8] In September 2016, the company was selected over three other applicants to open a racetrack in the Edmonton area; the $50-million Century Mile would feature a mile-long track and a casino.[9]
