Chabbewal is a town in the district of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, with a population of 5000.

Chabbewal is on the main highway from Pathankot to Chandigarh and sits just in the middle of Hoshiarpur and Mahilpur about 10 km each way. The main clan in Chabbewal is the Jatt Clan - Jhutty (or Jhutti / Jhooti). The Jhutti surname derives from the act of capturing an untamable animal pre India, in this case a horse. It is said that the person who captured this untamable horse was given the nickname "jhutti" (the act of capturing the untamable in frendly terms lynch" [nickname]). The name later developed into the clan's surname it originally means lynch [this tribe would "lynch" anyone exploiting them or there hunting grazing lands, lynch not nessarilly! but just camp to show their presence sometimes for a number of months, [ they have connections to writing, the cart and metalwork the cosmos charts, calendar and settlements ] to make sure the message was clear (especially to those who had built little cities i.e Sumeria, Jerusalem and Babylon and who were always looking for slaves ) which were spreading across Europe to north of the Caspian Sea and through Turkey and Iran to the punjab mangoe and sugar cane land the "five rivers" the veins of an ancient lake .

Then later on punjabi jhutti kind of translates to "a pinch or even snatch" but means lynch. These clans have resisted all invaders due to their kinship and brotherhood of clans, divide and conquer did not apply. Blood is really thicker then water, the clan did not join maharaja Ranjit Singh or guru Gobinds Singhs in their vanity-fuelled attempts on conquering lands and stayed true to one shall only fight if attacked, letting other tribes Khatris and Tharkhans (Tocharians or torchari) who fought them with their Hindu kings. Then when defeated served the Muslim invaders these forgiving clans gave these tribes refuge, then trade and neighbourly charity in their times of need (respect to the clan system which kept us safe and free from slavery) in the time of the Raj no Jatt warrior ever served in the British Indian Army. The Hindus would baptise there eldest son to Sikhism and the army would list him as a Jatt because of the fierce warrior that was the Jatt. A jatt would never fight for an enemy due to the warrior code (unjust or greed) they were only annexed, not conquered, and held their lands throughout that they still farm. These principals and sharing of food and brotherly love inspired the teachings of guru Nanak who was not a Jatt but Khatris. The neighboring villages house many historical Gurdwaras (Baba Rattan Singh Ji / Nattrala, Harian-Vellan - Jathedar Sant Baba Nihal Singh Ji) and has produced many football players for the state. Many people have migrated to foreign countries from this area: The UK, Canada, The US, Norway, Australia and other parts of Europe.

It is a well established village with many past and present political figures. Moreover, there is now an established Police Station present in Chabbewal, plus the town is host to the biggest peas (mutter) supplying market (mandi) in Asia. There is a strong footballing background in the town. This had led to a Football Academy being established, which has played host to some of the top football players in Punjab, while it hosts big football tournaments every summer and winter.

Chabbewal has also produced many soldiers that have served the Indian Armed Forces. The people of the town are very enthusiastic, hard-working and sociable. This is the reason why the NRI population of the town has been successful abroad, plus the sporting and military achievements of the people of Chabbewal. The village has gained a reputation of not just being a standard village, but a well-respected town of the Hoshiarpur district that people from all over the region like to visit and enjoy.
