The Chinese grassbird (Graminicola striatus) is a bird species in the Pellorneidae family. It was formerly placed in the Old World warbler family Sylviidae and the babbler family Timaliidae.
Distribution and habitat
It occurs in tall emergent vegetation in or bordering freshwater swamps or along banks of rivers in the lowlands of Hong Kong, southern China, southeastern Myanmar, southcentral Thailand, northeastern Vietnam, and Hainan Island. It is threatened by habitat loss and already extinct in Thailand and Vietnam.[1] Initial estimates suggest that there are no more than 50-100 pairs in Hong Kong, giving a maximum known global population of just 200 birds.[2]
