Saffron Aviation, DBA Cinnamon Air is a Sri Lankan domestic airline, operating from a dedicated terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo to destinations around Sri Lanka. It commenced its daily scheduled operation in July 2013. Cinnamon Air’s fleet consists of two Cessna 208 Amphibian aircraft (seating eight passengers each) and one wheeled Cessna 208B Grand Caravan (seating 8 passengers in an executive configuration) that gives Cinnamon Air the flexibility to operate from any of the Domestic and International airports as well as from waterdromes in Sri Lanka.
Overview
The goal of the airline is to cover the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka; Colombo - Kandy - Hambantota(Yala). Flights to proposed destinations except Kandy will start in late 2012. The flight operations to Kandy will begin after the construction work at the Kandy Airport is done.[1]
Cinnamon Air currently operates daily scheduled flights between Colombo (Waters Edge and the Bandaranaike International Airport), Kandy, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Dickwella, Koggala, Bentota and Sigiriya with a plan to expand its network to include destinations such as Nuwara Eliya and Kalpitiya. Cinnamon Air also operates luxurious private charters and scenic flights upon request giving passengers a chance to fly between a wide range of locations throughout the island that interest them specifically, from the mountainous central region to the stunning Northern region. Nuwara Eliya, Arugam Bay, Tissa Tank (serving Yala National Park), Ampara and Jaffna are among the many destinations available for private chartered flights. In addition, Cinnamon Air offers a variety of special promotions and discounts in connection with properties across Sri Lanka that are within easy reach of selected landing sites, providing a seamless travel experience.
All Cinnamon Air scheduled flights operate in code share with SriLankan Airlines, consequent to which they are also available for sale throughout the SriLankan Airlines network and all Travel Agents around the world via Global Distribution Systems, under a “UL” designated flight number. This in turn will provide travellers with an easy way to book flights within the country while they make their bookings to Sri Lanka. To further this close relationship with the national carrier, Cinnamon Air has branded one of its Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibians in SriLankan AirTaxi livery.
Cinnamon Air, owned and operated by Saffron Aviation (Pvt) Limited, is a joint venture between Sri Lanka’s largest listed conglomerate, John Keells Holdings, MMBL Leisure Holdings (a part of the Mercantile Merchant Bank Group) and Phoenix Ventures (parent of the Brandix Group, Sri Lanka’s largest garment manufacturer). The airline is based out of Katunayake where it operates a dedicated domestic terminal (within the precincts of the BIA) and also has its own purpose built hangar and maintenance facilities.
