Claudius B. Grant

Claudius Buchanan Grant (October 25, 1835 – February 28, 1921) was an American jurist, legislator, and lawyer.

Born in Lebanon, Maine, Grant received his bachelor's degree from University of Michigan and then taught school. He served in the Union Army, in the 20th Michigan Infantry Regiment, as a colonel. during the American Civil War. In 1866, Grant received his law degree from University of Michigan Law School and was admitted to the Michigan bar. He practiced law in Ann Arbor, Michigan and served in the Michigan House of Representatives in 1871 and 1873. Grant moved to Houghton, Michigan in 1873 and continued to practice law. He served as Michigan circuit court judge in 1881. From 1889 to 1909, Grant served on the Michigan Supreme Court and was chief justice. Grant died in St. Petersburg, Florida.[1][2][3][4]
