The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP)] is an ABHES-accredited provider of allied health care education and training.[1] Day and evening classes are offered at CHCP’s seven Texas campuses and online courses are available to students in Texas and 19 additional U.S. states.[2] Offerings include bachelors (BS) and associate’s (AAS) degree programs as well as professional certificates and continuing education (CE).[3] CHCP programs place an emphasis on career readiness through a combination of classroom, lab and externship experiences.[4]

History

In 1988, the physicians of MacGregor Medical Association, a physician’s practice of Texas Medical Center, founded the Academy of Health Care Professions. Its purpose was to provide quality training of allied health staff in-house, to support MacGregor’s growth. In 1990, in response to a growing demand for allied health professionals statewide, the Academy was approved by the Texas Workforce Commission to provide allied health education and training, not just for MacGregor, but also for any health care provider. In 2012, the Academy of Health Care Professions was renamed The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP).[5]

Accreditation

CHCP is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).[6] ABHES, an independent accrediting agency since 1969, evaluates the quality of health education programs nationwide.[7]

In addition, CHCP is:

Financial aid advising

CHCP employs Financial Aid Administrators to assist students with the process of applying for federal student aid and other programs.[11]

Military and veteran discount program

Active duty military, veterans, and their spouses and dependents who meet eligibility requirements, qualify for up to a 20% discount on their CHCP tuition.[12]

Career placement

Career Services offices are located on each of CHCP’s seven campuses. Services include assistance and guidance in résumé writing, interviewing, career path planning and job placement.[13] Placement and networking are furthered by student externships (practicums),[14] CHCP employer relationships and an alumni network of 12,000 plus.[15]
