Competition in the Regional jet market
Competition in the Regional jet market, contrary to the duopoly between Boeing and Airbus in the large jet airliner market, has several players from several countries and continents. This last decade, a fierce battle among well-established companies, Embraer E-Jet family and Bombardier CRJ700 series (the big two players), and emerging ones, Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Sukhoi Superjet 100, Comac ARJ21 and Antonov An-148 among them, has arisen in this lucrative billion dollar market.[1]

Mitsubishi MRJ-70 and MRJ-90
The Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) is a passenger jet aircraft seating 70–90 passengers manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, a partnership between majority owner Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Toyota Motor Corporation[2] with design assistance from Toyota affiliate Fuji Heavy Industries, already a manufacturer of aircraft. The project is in early manufacturing as of September 30, 2010[3] with its maiden flight scheduled for 2015. It will be the first airliner designed and produced in Japan since the NAMC YS-11 of the 1960s.
Comac ARJ21
The Comac ARJ21 Xiangfeng (Chinese: 翔凤; pinyin: xiángfèng; literally: "Soaring Phoenix")[4] is a twin-engined regional airliner. The design incorporates components from 19 major European and US aerospace suppliers, including General Electric (engine production),[5] Honeywell (fly-by-wire system) and Rockwell Collins (avionics production).[6]
Sukhoi Superjet 100
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (Russian: Сухой Суперджет 100) is a fly-by-wire regional jet in the 75- to 95-seat category. With development starting in 2000, the airliner was designed by the civil aircraft division of the Russian aerospace company Sukhoi, with some co-operation with Boeing in the early stages of the project. Its maiden flight was conducted on 19 May 2008. On 21 April 2011, the Superjet 100 undertook its first commercial passenger flight, on the Armavia route from Yerevan to Moscow.
Antonov An-148
The Antonov An-148 (Ukrainian: Антонов Ан-148) is a regional jet aircraft designed by the Ukrainian Antonov company and produced by Antonov itself and also on outsource by Russia's Voronezh Aircraft Production Association. Development of the plane was started in the 1990s, and the maiden flight took place on 17 December 2004. The plane completed its certification programme on 26 February 2007. The An-148 has a maximum range of 2,100–4,400 kilometers and is able to carry 68–99 passengers, depending on the configuration. The Antonov An-158 is a stretched fuselage version of the aircraft, accommodating 99 passengers.
Embraer E-Jet family
The Embraer E-Jet family is a series of narrow-body medium-range twin-engine jet airliners produced by Brazilian aerospace conglomerate Embraer. Launched at the Paris Air Show in 1999, and entering production in 2002, the aircraft series has been a commercial success.[7] The aircraft is used by both mainline and regional airlines around the world.
Bombardier CRJ700 series
The Bombardier CRJ700, CRJ900, and CRJ1000 are regional airliners based on the Bombardier CRJ200. Final assembly of the aircraft is at Montréal-Mirabel International Airport in Mirabel, Quebec, outside Montreal, Canada.[8]
