Crofton School is a coeducational foundation secondary school, located in Stubbington, Hampshire, England. The school has around 1200 students aged between 11-16 (years 7 to 11).[1] The school accepts pupils from the areas of: Stubbington, Hill Head, Titchfield, Peel Common, Gosport and Locks Heath.
Crofton opened in 1974 as a purpose-built mixed comprehensive school. Currently the headteacher is Ciaran O'Dowda who stepped up from deputy head status in September 2013. Crofton was awarded Specialist Meme Status in 2005 but has since been removed due to the departure of notable staff and pupils.
Crofton has two 'feeder' schools: Crofton Hammond Junior School and Crofton Anne Dale Junior School. Attendance at one of these feeder schools is a factor in admission to Crofton School.[2]
Racist Emails
In July 2016 it emerged that a senior member of staff, Steve Glasspool, had quit his position as school business manager due to leaked emails sent by him to the school's assistant head-teacher, Luke Mulhall. Derogatory terms such as 'really proper black' or 'they all look the same to me' were used, when Steve Glasspool visited the University of Southampton in January 2016. Luke Mulhall did not reply nor report the matter. It is not known how the emails were leaked and the school conducted an investigation into the matter. It was made clear that the school did not condone his discriminative views. Shorty after this Ciaran O'Dowda announcd he would be stepping down at Crofton to take a new job as headteacher of a newly built collage to be opened September 2017. He will resign at Christmas. [3]
