Dalkhi Thi Saav Chhutan (Gujarati: ડાળખીથી સાવ છૂટાં) (English: Severed From Its Branch) is a collection of committed poetry in Gujarati language written by Ashok Chavda 'Bedil'. The book has won the Yuva Puraskar (2013) instituted by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. The book consist of deep and intense emotions of the poet expressed in different form of poetry such as ghazal, Geet and free verse. The poem of this book deals with social issues such as castism and untouchability in India.[1]
Content
The book consists 24 ghazals, 3 muktak, 15 geet and 10 free verse. Most of the ghazals of this book have composed in an Arabic meters 'Khafif', 'Ramal' and 'Hazaj'. All the poems of this book have centered around the deep rooted caste system of country and the shattered dreams of Dalit, the historical, social tragedy that has been passed on from generation to generation.[2]
Awards
The book have won Yuva Puraskar - 2013 instituted by Sahitya Akademi, New delhi and Dasi Jivan Award - 2014 by Government of Gujarat.[1]
Critical response
The book have critically acclaimed by several Gujarati language authors and critics including Raghuvir Chaudhari, Chandrakant Topiwala, Rajesh Pandya and Neerav Patel. A ghazal from this book which reflects the true emotions of Dalit community, entitled Bahaar Rakhyo Chhe, have considered to be the best by several critics and it also appeared in Kavitachayan (2009), selected poems of the year, published by Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. Chandrakant Topiwala noted in Samipe (May 2014 Issue) that, the satire in a shear like Hari nu ghar aam hoy chhe kevu?, Kem puchhi shakaay harijan thi? reaches a height of poetry of Chakhoba.[3]
