Dan Johnson, an Idaho politician, was born in Salina, Kansas in 1960 to Ken Johnson of Chicago, Illinois and Frances Wood of Beaumont, Texas. His father was a career pilot in the United States Air Force and moved his family to Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota and retired from there in 1971.
Dan Johnson attended Carl Ben Eielson Elementary School on the air base and Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. His family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota om his senior year of high school, and he graduated high school from Holy Angels Academy in Richfield, Minnesota in 1978. He subsequently attended Sheridan College in Sheridan, Wyoming and the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Range Sciences of the University of Idaho, and received a MS degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Working career
He worked four years in retail banking and trust operations for Norwest National Bank in Minnesota. He worked four seasons in soils and fire management for the United States Forest Service in Alaska, and Wyoming. He worked eight years as a self-employed forestry consultant for Resource Organization on Timber Supply in Idaho. He worked eighteen months as executive director for Douglas Timber Operators based in Oregon. He worked three years as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Idaho. He has worked six years as Solid Waste Manager for the City of Lewiston in Idaho.
He has served as Port Commissioner for the Port of Lewiston in Idaho since 2011. He has served in the Idaho State Senate[1] beginning in the 2012 Legislative Session.
Personal life
He married Jacqueline Michelle Garber of Cody, Wyoming in August 1986. They divorced in 1996. He had four children from the marriage. Three of four children attended the University of Idaho, in Moscow, Idaho, and one son served in the United States Navy. He was engaged to Natalie Jean Altmiller of Lewiston, Idaho in August 2012. Natalie moved to Lewiston from Orofino, Idaho.
He has competed in several running events throughout the United States and Europe. He has hiked mountains in the west and canoed and kayaked many of its streams and rivers.
