Dark pop
Dark pop is a music genre consisting of melodic pop vocals mixed with lyrical themes that take on content of a dark nature. Generally the musical components are made up by the use of heavy synthesizers generally heard in industrial/goth rock, combined with hip hop/techno drums and a sub bass sound that is clearly defined in the mix. In recent years, the term has been used by bands such as The Neighbourhood and the Bloom Twins who have coined their music genres as dark pop in 2014.
